I’ve been reflecting on something really special that’s been happening in my life lately, and I wanted to share it with you. Being part of a couple of Facebook groups for military spouses has opened my eyes to the power of community. It all started when I found myself in a messenger group chat filled with incredible women who are always there to support each other, no matter what.
The heart and soul behind our community, the woman who brought us all together.. We’ll call her "Summer". Her kindness and dedication to connecting not only military spouses but other women in the community has been a beacon of light for me in what can sometimes feel like a lonely journey. Making friends in a new place has never been easy for me—I’m usually reserved until I feel comfortable, hesitant to insert myself into conversations, just always having that social anxiety or that awkward feeling being around new people, and never knowing what to talk about.
The first time I met these amazing women in person was at a laid-back Paint and Sip potluck gathering at Summer’s place. I brought some Filipino lumpia and Hawaiian Butter Mochi, and despite my quiet nature, I actually had a good time. My daughter even got to play with baby chicks that they had, and the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming. After that day, life threw me some challenges—I was pregnant and navigating the emotions of my husband being deployed. Throughout it all, Summer checked in on me regularly. Her thoughtfulness meant the world to me.
As time went on, I found myself struggling to attend group activities due to pregnancy fatigue and emotional ups and downs. I worried these amazing women might think I wasn’t interested in connecting with them. But you know what? They understood completely. They continued to offer their support and friendship, whether online or in person.
Recently, these wonderful women decided to plan a group baby shower for us pregnant mamas. I’m so touched and excited about it. It’s coming up soon, and I can’t wait to celebrate with them and three other expectant moms. It means everything to me, especially since my family and close friends are miles away. This pregnancy is incredibly special to me after years of trying, and to have this group of friends celebrate with me is beyond words.
Just yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a birthday party for one of their children. Meeting these women face-to-face was just as heartwarming as chatting with them online. They welcomed everyone with open arms, and it truly felt like being part of a big, caring family.
I feel incredibly grateful to have found myself in this amazing group of supportive and kind-hearted people. They’ve made this chapter of my life so much brighter. I’ll be sure to update you all on how the baby shower goes—it’s going definitely going to be a special day.
Remember, even in the midst of life’s challenges, there are beautiful connections waiting to be made. Here’s to finding your tribe, wherever life takes you.
